Complete freedom from the glitziness often associated with downhill resorts, and from the ill-mannered lift queues of the Alps
Quiet atmosphere that suits families and older people
Impressive snowboard parks
Usually reliable snow conditions throughout a long season
Very limited downhill areas small, and mostly with few challenges
Unremarkable scenery even ‘Alpine’ Hemsedal resembles the Pennines more than the Alps
Mountain restaurants are little more than pit-stops
Prohibitively high prices (because of high taxes) for alcoholic drinks
